Cool Stuff About Piranhas

In nature, piranhas live in the lakes and rivers of South America. So you don’t have to worry about getting bitten by a piranha unless you are swimming there.

Most of the time, piranhas aren’t even interested in attacking people. Children in the Amazon swim in piranha infested rivers all the time without getting bitten.

Piranhas will attack if they are very, very hungry.

Piranhas are attracted to blood and can smell a single drop of blood in the water from over fifty miles away.

A school of piranhas really can eat a large animal down to its bones in less than half an hour, but it doesn’t happen very often. Usually piranhas nip the fins and tails of other fish or prey on smaller fish or animals that are already dead.
